Donation Policy

Effective Date: 28 September 2024

Srividya Foundation is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization dedicated to promoting ancient spiritual practices, teachings, and programs such as Srividya Sadhana, Dasha Mahavidya Sadhana, Kundalini Sadhana, and more. We are deeply grateful for the support of our donors, whose contributions help us fulfill our mission and sustain our programs. This Donation Policy outlines the terms and conditions under which donations are accepted, used, and managed. Please review this policy carefully before making a donation.

1. Acceptance of Donations

Eligibility to Donate: Donations can be made by individuals, businesses, foundations, or other organizations that wish to support the mission and activities of Srividya Foundation.

Minimum Donation Amount for Tax Deductibility: To comply with IRS guidelines, donations of $250 or more are eligible to receive a formal acknowledgment letter for tax deduction purposes. Donations below $250 may still be tax-deductible, but donors are responsible for maintaining their own records (e.g., bank statements, credit card receipts) as proof of the contribution.

Types of Donations Accepted

Srividya Foundation accepts various forms of donations, including but not limited to:

Monetary Donations:

    • Via online payments (credit card, debit card, PayPal, or other payment gateways)
    • Bank transfers to our designated bank account
    • Checks payable to “Srividya Foundation,” mailed to our registered address

Securities and Stocks:

  • We gratefully accept donations of publicly traded securities, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Donating appreciated securities can offer donors potential tax advantages, as you may be able to avoid capital gains taxes on the transfer.
  • Donors interested in contributing securities should contact us for instructions on transferring assets to Srividya Foundation’s brokerage account. We recommend consulting a tax advisor for guidance on potential tax benefits.

Bequests and Wills:

  • Donors may choose to include Srividya Foundation in their will or estate plan. This can be done through a specific bequest (a stated dollar amount or asset), a residuary bequest (a percentage of your estate), or a contingent bequest (conditional upon other circumstances).
  • If you are considering a planned gift, please inform us so that we can acknowledge your generosity and provide you with the appropriate legal language for inclusion in your will.

Real Estate and Tangible Assets:

  • We may accept donations of real estate properties or other tangible assets (e.g., vehicles, equipment, art). Such donations are subject to approval and will be evaluated based on their potential impact, value, and the ability of Srividya Foundation to manage or liquidate the asset effectively.
  • Donors are responsible for obtaining an independent appraisal of the asset to determine its fair market value for tax deduction purposes.

In-Kind Donations:

  • In-kind donations of goods and services that align with Srividya Foundation’s mission are welcome, such as office supplies, equipment, or professional services. Donors should contact us to discuss the suitability and potential use of such contributions.

Cryptocurrency Donations:

  • We accept donations in cryptocurrency (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) through our secure donation portal. These contributions will be immediately converted into U.S. dollars at the prevailing market rate. Donors will receive an acknowledgment for the U.S. dollear equivalent of their cryptocurrency donation on the day it is received.

2. Use of Donations

Purpose: All donations received by Srividya Foundation will be used to support our programs, teachings, activities, operational costs, outreach, and other mission-related expenses.
Restricted vs. Unrestricted Donations:

Unrestricted Donations: Donations made without specific instructions will be treated as unrestricted and may be used for any purpose that aligns with Srividya Foundation’s mission.

Restricted Donations: If a donor wishes to specify a particular purpose or program for their donation, they must communicate this in writing at the time of donation. Srividya Foundation will make every effort to honor such requests but reserves the right to use funds for the most pressing needs if the designated purpose becomes impractical or no longer necessary.

Administrative Costs: A portion of unrestricted donations may be allocated to cover reasonable administrative and operational expenses to ensure the effective functioning of Srividya Foundation.

3. Tax Deductibility and Acknowledgment

501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Status: Srividya Foundation is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions made to Srividya Foundation are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Donation Acknowledgment:

Donors who contribute $250 or more will receive an official acknowledgment letter, which includes our EIN (Employer Identification Number), the donation amount, and a statement confirming that no goods or services were provided in exchange for the donation.

Donations under $250 will not receive an acknowledgment letter unless specifically requested by the donor. Donors are advised to retain their payment receipts for tax purposes.

Matching Gifts: If your employer offers a matching gift program, please contact us or your employer’s HR department for details on how to submit the necessary paperwork to double your donation’s impact.

4. Refund Policy for Donations

Non-Refundable Donations: All donations to Srividya Foundation are considered final and non-refundable, in line with IRS regulations governing charitable contributions. Once a donation is made, it cannot be refunded under any circumstances, regardless of the donor’s change of mind, financial situation, or any other reason.

Mistaken Donations: In the event of an accidental or duplicate donation, please contact us within 7 days of the transaction date. Srividya Foundation will review the request and, at its sole discretion, may consider processing a refund in such exceptional cases.

5. Donor Privacy and Confidentiality

Srividya Foundation respects the privacy of our donors and is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of all donor information. We do not sell, trade, or share personal donor information with third parties.

Donors have the right to remain anonymous if they choose. Any donor wishing to remain anonymous should indicate their preference at the time of donation.

6. Donor Recognition

Public Acknowledgment: Unless a donor requests anonymity, Srividya Foundation may publicly recognize donors through our website, newsletters, annual reports, or other promotional materials. This acknowledgment may include the donor’s name, donation amount (optional), and any special dedication or message provided.

Special Recognition: We may offer special recognition or benefits for significant donations. These may include opportunities to participate in exclusive events, access to special materials, or acknowledgment in specific programs.

7. Donor Rights

Donors have the right to:

Receive prompt acknowledgment and communication regarding their donation.
Know how their donation will be used and request information about how funds are allocated.
Expect that their donation will be handled with respect and confidentiality.

8. Use of In-Kind Donations

In-kind donations (goods or services) will be used in accordance with Srividya Foundation’s needs. Any goods donated become the property of Srividya Foundation, and we reserve the right to use, distribute, or dispose of them as deemed appropriate.
